What Could Be Preventing You From Going Higher In Christ?

It’s a little thing… really, but it generates a whole lot of trouble if left unchecked. This “little thing” is your mouth, and scripture warns us about our use of it.

Have you ever heard the scripture that reads, “Life and death is in the power of the tongue”(Proverbs 18:21)? Have you read the end of this statement.. “those who love it will eat its fruit”? We hear about life and death being in the power of the tongue and it’s also demonstrated when Jesus curses the fig tree, but no one considers the meaning of those who love it will eat its fruit.

So What Does That Mean?

The world calls it “karma”, but the Bible calls it the principle of sowing/reaping. It means that those who love to spread gossip, slander, lie, cheat, speak negatively, or criticize others, you will receive what they speak- into their own lives!

How Does This Work?

Speaking Negatively About Yourself: If God can create the universe with the spoken word, our words shape our reality. When we speak negatively about ourselves, it impacts our lives… negatively. It can prevent you from attaining success. Furthermore, if you spoke a positive confession, or were prayed over, you may have negated your miracle by what you just spoke unless you repent.

For example, how many of us have said, “I never (fill in the blank)”? It can be “never amount to much”, “never succeed in life”, “never have enough money”, “never find love”, etc. And let me ask you… have you found what you are looking for? The majority of people would answer, “no”, and do you know why? Because you are confessing an absolute that you will never have it!

Now what would your life look like if you suddenly said, “Someday I will find the love of my life”?

But it hasn’t happened, yet!!

But it could.

You see, faith without works is dead. Faith begins with works which is your confession. Now it should be noted that a positive confession alone will not cause your situation to change. You need to do something towards it.

So if you are unemployed with a positive confession that money cometh waiting for that unknown dead relative you mail you a cheque, you may be waiting a very long time. You need to change your situation by finding a job, and God will bless what you put your hands to.

Lying, Cheating, Stealing, Gossiping, Criticizing: These are acts done to someone else, but they equally have consequences that can prevent you from moving forward. God hates all of these things, which most of us know, but few understand what the consequences are.

When we engage in these things, not only are we hurting our own reputation and our relationships with others, but it sometimes hinders our prayers. So if you are praying for a miracle, your prayers may go unanswered.

This also works for unforgiveness and bitterness as well. Both harden your heart, and both act as a barrier to hearing from God.

Additionally, nothing stays secret for long. A gossip/liar/thief/etc is always found out. What they have “loved to spread” has suddenly become the fruit they are eating, meaning the consequence of their actions.

Note that with everything, there is a cause and effect relationship. And if you think that you will never be found out, guess again. God says that He will judge, and vengeance is His.
