Artist and songwriter, John Waller, is known for his inspirational hit singles such as “Crazy Faith” (featured in War Room), “While I’m Waiting” (Fireproof), “As For Me and My House”, “The Blessing”, and more. John just released his latest album, Explosions of Light, on January 25, 2019.

Explosions of Light was the first song that was created after John’s move to California to accept a position as Worship Pastor for Hope Point Nazarene. The title came from words that he heard Louie Giglio say, which was, “Whenever we say things like ‘hallelujah’ there is literally an explosion of light into the spirit realm.” John hopes that it will make its way into the church and prepare the way for more worship songs to come.

His latest album, Explosions of Light, features many of his well known songs such as Awakening, and also his moving song, Mine.

Tracks On Explosions of Light

It is good and lively music. The rhythm and melody is good to sing along with. At first, it was hard for me to understand what was the meaning of this song, and why it is titled “Come back.” Then after listening to the song several times, it seems that the song tells about someone who was in Christ and somehow loses their faith.

Now, the fire of the Holy Spirit is burning again in him, that’s why it is said in the lyrics of the song, “It is my come back story.” In the song, he is like a person who was devoted in church, but for some reason he was not able to attend and stopped reading the Bible. When he finally returned to the church, he was on fire again. Like the first Christians in the book of Acts, “And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,” – Acts 2:46 (ESV)

  • MINE

This is a good story-telling song that tells about being in a father and daughter relationship. It is related to our God as our Father and we as His children. In the book of Isaiah, God said that, “But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”  Isaiah 43:1 (ESV) I don’t like the first part of the song, but at the end I found myself singing with it.

I like this song because it has a good melody that is easy to sing along. The sound of the guitar is very smooth to listen to. The lyrics are very well arranged.

The song tells about how the singer sees his praying mother faith and how she’s consistent on praying about him as it is written on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (ESV) Non-stop praying is what we should always do and have faith that God is working in a silent way.

  • EPIC

This is a good worship song to listen to and it made me feel that I’m worshiping in church. The song says that God is an epic and glorious. Epic means “legendary” or “historical hero” according to Merriam Webbster dictionary. This word relates to Jesus who is a historical hero because he is a savior who came 2000 years ago.

In the verse Isaiah 43:11 (ESV), God said: “I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.”

This song tells about as it is in the title, “When God Says No.” What do we feel about unanswered prayers? What do we do when there are times that our will is not aligned to the will of God? This song is an encouragement that we should not stop believing.

The song also tells about that we don’t know our future and it is true that we do not know what God prepares for us in the future, we just have to believe that God has prepared good future for us. Just like what God told the prophet Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) It is a good reminder to everyone because even if we don’t know what will happen in the future, we can trust God that there will be a good tomorrow waiting for us.

I like the melody and the rhythm of this song. It is a perfect song to listen to when you are reading your Bible in a quiet time. The song tells about there can be other religion, other gods, idols, and pagans, but then he chose to worship Jesus.

It tells about what the world is telling you and what God is telling you like not conforming to the world. I can relate the part of the lyrics that says, “Before I choose you, you choose me.” It is the same in the verse 1 John 4:19 (ESV) “We love because he first loved us.” It is God who chose us to be his children first until we met Christ.

I like singing along with this song. The lyrics are about surrendering to the Lord. The song reminded me how I surrendered my life to Jesus with all the life and everything that I have as the Bible says in the book of James,

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (ESV)

I heard a lot of Bible verses in the song that are well arranged with the soft sound of the guitar. I think I can use this song whenever I talk to someone who would like to surrender to Jesus and for sure their hearts will be touched with the lyrics of the song.

This song is a song of encouragement not to doubt on surrendering themselves to Jesus.

I like the lyrics, the beat and the rhythm of this song. It is a good encouragement to someone who does not hear the word of God. The lyrics tells about how the world words can bring you down because the world can tell you all the bad things about you even if it is not true. The word of God is still powerful and true. Sometimes, what we think of ourselves is what we heard from the world.

I remember the story of Gideon in this song. Gideon was the weakest man in their clan and coward, but God’s word said that Gideon is mighty and God made him the mightiest man in Israel. The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.  – Psalm 119:160

This is a good, lively music that is good to listen to when you are driving on the road. The instruments were played nicely without heavy beat and pleasant to the ears.

The song says that “I need Jesus… You are my awakening…” Everyone needs Jesus and it is a good song lively song that I can share to someone is new in faith and newly attending church. I remember the story of the conversion of the apostle Paul when he was still called Saul and persecuting the Christians.

God blinded him so that he will open his eyes, his mind and his body to Jesus. “So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”” Acts 9:17 (ESV) Like Paul and the new Christian, their eyes are awakened.

I like this lively song that is easy to sing along and dance with. The song reminded me how Jesus tells about us as being the light of the world.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

There was a part of the lyrics that said, “Light the darkness with your glory,” and connecting to the verses in Matthew 5, Jesus was assigning us to be the light of the world. Jesus gave us the task to share the gospel, like John Waller he is sharing the gospel through his song and I share the gospel through writing and my vlogs.

This song is a great song about God’s love for us. The lyrics of the song revealed some of the qualities of God like He is patient and He listens. Are you feel blessed that God gave wisdom to the people to write His words for us?

The apostle John wrote the reason that the Bible is written in Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. – John 20:30-31 (ESV)

Pros and Cons About Explosions of Light

Pros: The compilation, composition and the lyrics are well arranged. All tracks are original and I haven’t heard anything like those before. It is a good album to listen to that I can sing along on all of the songs in the album.

Cons: I don’t like the story telling part of the beginning of the song, “Mine” but the half part of it was good.
