We are not to be held prisoner of our thoughts, but Use the Word of God to Change Our reality
Anxiety and panic attacks begin with a series of events:
- Negative Thoughts
- Lack/Erosion of Faith Wherein We Are Not Trusting In God
- Failure To Believe In His Word Over Our Lives
- Taking Charge of Our Future (Not Relying On God)
It’s easy to be negative and to have negative thoughts of impending doom flood your mind. We indulge in saying that we are preparing for the worst-case scenario, but “believing for the best”. Yet when you strip away the jargon, we are really saying that we are visualizing the worst because we don’t believe that God will give us His best.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.Matthew 6:25-30
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”
Anxiety Begins When Our Focus Is removed From God
The scripture in Matthew 6 instructs us that worry is unnecessary and unproductive. It accomplishes nothing in our lives. It doesn’t prepare us for what may come, but generates in us a fear of what may come.
This fear undermines our faith, and completely obliterates our ability to trust that God will provide as outlined in scripture. We begin to plot and plan for what may lie ahead causing greater anxiety when God is telling us through His Word that, “I’ve got this.”.
When we are anxious or fearful, we act on this emotion. Subsequently, our decisions may tend to be more reactive than accompanied by logical thought. Our emotions get in the way and cloud our perspectives.
Not only that, but consider the physical ramifications associated with high levels of stress. Many people who are anxious experience body aches, insomnia, heart palpitations, panic attacks, etc. Stress leads to an increase in cardiac arrest, high blood pressure and stroke. It shortens our life span- not adds to it- and how often are we confronted with the reality at the end of it that there was nothing to be concerned about?
