Psalm 143:8 “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in God. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
Are you able to confidently say that you place your entire trust in God? Would you say that you honesty “entrust your life to Him”? When you talk to Him, are you vulnerable, honest, transparent, and do you surrender yourself completely to Him? Or is it just partially. Most of us find trust a difficult thing- not only because it involves the characteristics listed above, but because we equate trust in God with trusting in people when in reality, we need to separate the two. Here are the reasons why:
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
What Does Surrendering To God Do?
Surrendering and trusting in God builds our faith because we recognize that we are reliant on Him. However, this reliance also incorporates a fear factor in many of us, because it involves vulnerability and transparency- something that many of us avoid.
We avoid vulnerability because we often equate it with judgement, so we put on a persona- or an outward appearance. Well, this doesn’t work with God. What we fail to realize is that God already knows our heart, and judges us by it accordingly. We cannot be false with Him, because He would know. You simply cannot hide your heart from your Creator- it doesn’t work!
Trusting and surrendering to God also eliminates the “need” to worry, because we are placing our confidence in Him as our protector. We are able to, then, have a confidence that things will work out because even though we might not understand what is happening, we know that God will work it towards our good. No harm will come to us, and when you know that “God’s got it”, you know that you don’t have to worry. You can completely surrender to Him.
Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Psalm 121:3, “He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber.”
Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
All of these scriptures highlight God as our protector. Coupled with the Holy Spirit who is our comforter, how can you go wrong?
When we come to the realization that God is our protector, we are able to walk in peace and confidence. You know that you will not go under, or be consumed by your circumstances. Even though change may not be manifesting in the natural, we can be confident that it is manifesting in the supernatural. All we have to do is wait for it.
These scriptures highlight that God is walking beside us through every storm in life- He hasn’t abandoned you, and He has every thing under control.
But this isn’t easy for many believers. Again, we seek to control our situations/circumstances, and there is always that hint of fear that whispers to us, “What are you going to do if God doesn’t show up?”. There is an ever-present fear of what we will do if things don’t manifest in time- what then?
However, letting this fear creep in ends up robbing us of our faith (fear is the opposite of faith because it doesn’t trust in God) and prevents us from surrendering to God. In essence, we are telling God that we don’t trust Him to fulfill His promises, and can be taken to the extent that we are calling God a liar when we know that God is faithful. This type of thinking calls into question scripture because we are questioning God’s Word.
If He said it, He will do it. It’s really that simple. However, it is a matter of timing.
Proverbs 16:20, “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”
Want to prosper in all areas? It’s a promise from the Lord. It happens when we trust in Him and wait to hear His voice. He might not always say what we want to hear, but His ways are always better than our ways. After all, He was the one that created our future. So, we can either kick against it and ultimately rob ourselves of something wonderfully fulfilling, or we can rise to where God has chosen us to be, and have a real impact.
Psalm 118:8, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.”
Psalm 9:10, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
In the end, God will never disappoint you, nor will He leave you. He is not like a human with flaws. God is perfect, and His love for you is perfect.
We make the mistake of applying our own perceptions to God, resulting in misconceptions. You can’t rationalize something that is flawless, you just have to accept it as perfect. We are so cautious with our hearts because we are afraid that they will be hurt or broken. Yet it is God who heals our hearts and makes us whole again. There is nothing to fear, but everything to gain.
We can’t rationalize unconditional and sacrificial love because none of us can demonstrate it like God can. God is void of motive, manipulation, and human judgement (He does judge, however, but not in this context). He doesn’t give us what we deserve, but by His grace gives us many times what we don’t deserve. And this is something we should rejoice over, because where would we be if He gave us exactly what we deserved?
Take a moment to ponder that one… 🙂
If you find yourself wanting/yearning to feel that deep sense of love and acceptance of Christ, then I urge you to go to this page. Additionally, if you are struggling with brokenness, and your spirit needs healing, this is where you can be made whole again.
