The World versus God: Why Should we be Saved?
By Michelle C. Danko
Why should I be saved? It’s a legitimate question that most of us have asked ourselves at one point or another. When you are not in Christ, the world can be a very tempting place. In it, you can do whatever you want within legal reason. You can watch whatever you want, speak whichever way you prefer, dress provocatively if you so choose… the rules are pretty loose. It is a world where you can be self-made and you are in control of your own future. Why give it up? Seems pretty ideal… Or so you thought.
Do you want to be in control of your own future? When we are in control, our decisions can be either 50% good, or 50% bad, on average. What if you were told that there is a way, if you would listen, that all of your decisions could work towards your good. Would you ditch the world if you knew that you were guaranteed to be blessed, to prosper, to be promoted, and have an abundant life?
Self-made individuals are just that, self-made. They struggled through hardship and became someone by their own tenacity. They worked hard. They made mistakes, but learned from them. They did everything their way. But did you know that there is a better, less exhausting way of obtaining success? It shouldn’t end in divorce, or spousal neglect. God can give you the grace to do what He has created you to do without having to sacrifice it all just to afford a lifestyle.
God loves you so much. He knows what’s in your heart, because often He was the one who put it there. Like any loving father, He wants to give freely to His children. And like any loving father, He expects you to obey, but the difference is that He knows the outcome. If you listen, God will guide your steps towards success. You can have all of the things that you desire. He can give you those million dollar ideas, that booming business… and more!
“By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape [by flight] from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:4
“We know [absolutely] that anyone born of God does not [deliberately and knowingly] practice committing sin, but the One Who was begotten of God carefully watches over and protects him [Christ’s divine presence within him preserves him against the evil], and the wicked one does not lay hold (get a grip) on him or touch [him].” 1 John 5:18
Lust, greed, corruption, and ruthlessness describe the world. There are people who will stop at nothing to get what they want. They will crush their competition, and don’t care what they have to do to attain their goals. This is the world that you want to be a part of?
God’s world says that He will bless all that you put your hand to (Deuteronomy 15:6). That He will destroy your enemies (Psalm 18:40, Psalm 143:12) because He loves you. People may plot against you, and they may plan your demise, but God loves you so much that He protects His children against the wiles of the enemy. God is the only one who knows the hearts of men. He can protect you. Can the world offer that?
Can the world offer you unconditional love? God himself calls the world corrupt. In fact, God specifically tells us to not to be of this world.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
God tells us to renew our minds. Why? The words that people use can hurt. Sometimes it’s unintentional, and other times it can be malicious. Do you want to believe the person that calls you “stupid”? How about worthless? Won’t amount to anything? What about fat, ugly, unpopular, a nothing, a “zero”, or any other phrase to describe you as someone that God says you aren’t. Are you going to believe their lies?
What about when they criticize the plans you have for your life or your future saying that it could never happen. If God is in it, and it’s His plan and purpose, you will succeed. He will supernaturally bring people across your path to help you succeed. “But it’s too late!” you say? It’s never too late with God. He just divinely accelerates the process!
It is impossible for others to love you like God love you. Humans are imperfect. If you want someone to love and accept you for who you are, and to see the beauty in something the He created, then you need God. He loves you no matter what because you are His child, and you are special. There is no one else like you, and He didn’t create someone to be just like you. It is because you are so unique that you are special, and that never changes with God.
In fact, God loves you so much that He puts people in your path to lead you back to Him. He wants all of His children to follow Him. Why? His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. He is searching for you. Won’t you return to Him? He can heal all of your hurts. He heals the broken hearted, and can restore all that has been stolen from you. He will lift you up and reveal the truth amongst the lies if you will just let Him.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).” Jeremiah 33:3
It sounds like a gracious and loving father if He would cause you to shine so much in life that you cannot be ignored. People will be drawn to you for what you will have and want it. God will also reveal things that are unknown to you in your quiet time with Him. He delights in giving you hope for the future. He will give you all that you need because He loves you- no strings attached. He desires to have a relationship with you because you are His son/daughter.
If you have never given your life to Christ and want to, please repeat the following prayer:
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we will be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.
Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your blood covers our sins, and you are quick to forgive when we repent. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself.
Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.
Please let us know if you have prayed this prayer so that we can rejoice with you and help you along your faith walk. We would love to give you more information free of charge about the love of Christ.
Please return tomorrow for part two as we discuss what a life in Christ looks like, why we want to be saved, and what it means to be a Christian.
What does God say you are? Keep coming back to find out. Once rooted in these truths, you will never believe a lie again!
